Resume template, write your resume
Your resume is a very important part of your job application. Often your resuem is the first document, the company you are applying, looks at.
If your resume is not good enough, your application letter will no longer be read. If an organization gets a lot of responses on a vacancy, it may be that your resume will receive attention for a couple of seconds. So the first impression must be right. Setting up a good resume is therefore essential. The layout must look neat and well-kept and all the necessary information should be in the right place, so use a good resume template. In your resume you will find education, work experiences and other skills.
Resume template structure
A resume has a usual structure, although it may differ slightly in heading order and exact content. While writing a resume, you start with your personal information at the top of the document, following a short personal profile, your education, your work experience, your competences and skills, your interests and hobbies and references if you have them. The different parts are further explained below and on the resume structure page.
Under the personalities header, you will at least mention your name, address, telephone number, birth date and e-mail address. Sometimes it is also advisable to mention your birthplace and your marital status. You may also mention your gender.
Short Personal Profile
In the personal profile section you can sell yourself in a few sentences. Keep the information concise and clear. For example, mention for what function you are applying and name what you have to offer the new company.
Name the educations you have followed in reverse chronological order. That is, you put up your last-mentioned education at the top and so back in time. Name the exact name of the program and the institution where you followed the program. Also indicate the years per education.
As with the education listing, you also mention your work experience in reverse chronological order. Put your current or most recent job at the top. If you already have a lot of experience in the industry your applying for, you can suffice with the relevant experience. If you have less experience, mention as much work experience as possible. These can be for example small jobs, volunteer work and internships. For each job, you will mention the start and end dates. Under the job title you can explain the contents of the job. That’s smart because the exact content is not always clear from the job name. Any other successes can be mentioned also. If there are missing spots in your resume, explain what you did in that period. Be honest and do not end up with lies.
Competences and Skills
For example, mention the applications or software packages you can work with, which languages you speak and whether you have a driver’s license. List all skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for. Relevant hobbies and interests can be listed here or in a separate section.
References from former colleagues
References are a good way to convince a new employer of your qualities. Don’t forget to ask the colleagues you are using as refernce. Be sure if to know whether they want to be approached for questions or not.
When you are writing a resume, the layout is also very important. The first impression must be taken care of. Make sure columns are aligned straight and give all the parts of the resume a bold heading so they can be found quickly. Use one, but in no case more than two fonts. Too many fonts together give a messy impression. For example, use Verdana, Arial or Times New Roman. A resume may not exceed two A4’s. You can optionally add a photo to your resume. Then choose for a professional photo and not a holiday photo.
Important resume tips
Make sure there are no typo’s and spelling errors in your resume, because the chance of your rejection will be large. Have your resume and application letter checked by someone else. After all, two people see more than one. Once you have made a good resume, it is advisable to review it again at each new application. The resume must be as close as possible to the job you are applying for, so take the effort to adjust it as necessary. A handy tip is also to save your resume as a PDF file. This ensures that the formatting is preserved and that there are no texts or columns that will shift.
